Faculty Recruitment

Clemens Hall

The University at Buffalo is a member of the American Association of Universities, a group comprised of intensive research institutions. Scholarly activity is a prime objective for our faculty. For this reason, our full-time professors on tenured or tenure-track lines have a teaching load of two courses per semester (four for the academic year). Faculty have the opportunity to design new courses and create new curriculum, including study abroad programs. They are eligible for periodic paid research leaves. Faculty and professional staff at UB are unionized, represented by United University Professionals. Our department supports a medium-sized, select group of graduate students in Spanish and French, many of whom hold teaching assistantships. The department is affiliated with foreign universities such as Salamanca (Spain), Lausanne (Switzerland), and Lille III (France).

The Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA) is a scholarly organization for professionals in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and other modern languages. Building on a rich tradition of excellence, the University at Buffalo supports the mission of NeMLA by serving as its institutional and administrative host.
