Graduate Study Abroad & Exchange Programs
Graduate Students with an active teaching assistantship at UB are eligible for an academic year exchange with the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) or the University of Charles V (France).
UB doctoral students can go to Lausanne Switzerland to UNIL for one academic year as teaching assistants (UNIL – Université de Lausanne).
The UB student who goes to Lausanne teaches, for example, an English composition course (1.5 hours a week), and is compensated at 22,000 CHF for the year. Based on program needs and enrollments in the hosting department in Switzerland, there is the possibility of teaching a second course in the Spring semester for an additional 8,400 CHF.
Room and board is the responsibility of the exchange student. This is well above the minimum required to get by in Lausanne.
This is an opportunity to perfect language skills, do research at the library there, or perform fieldwork for a future dissertation grant. The exchange student will be welcomed into the English Department, will have access to a desk and computer, and may participate in the Comparative Literature work-in-progress workshops.
UB doctoral students can go to Paris, France, for one academic year as Teaching Assistant at Charles V (Denis Diderot).
The UB student who goes to Paris teaches English language and conversation sections. A total of 300 hours of yearly service are required, which translates to (roughly) twelve hours a week in the classroom.
Exchange participants are remunerated for the year at a rate of around 17,835 Euros.
Room and board is the responsibility of the exchange student.
This is an opportunity to take advantage of the resources in Paris, to establish academic relationships with scholars in France, and to perform dissertation research or do fieldwork in preparation for a future grant.
