Typical Student Profile
Students in the graduate program have excellent language skills (they have often spent a year abroad studying their primary language). Their strong background in the field is usually defined as a B.A. with a major in the language. M.A. candidates tend to be interested in careers as teachers of language and literary and cultural studies at the high school level, although the program also attracts students who plan on careers in international relations, business, or public service. Applicants to the Ph.D. program are mainly interested in teaching literature or linguistics at the university level.
Interested students who intend ultimately to pursue a doctorate should apply directly to the PhD. An MA degree is NOT a prerequisite for entrance into the PhD program.
