Undergraduate

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University at Buffalo offers majors in French, Italian, and Spanish, as well as a minor in Latina/o studies. Full information about these programs is available through the links at left.

The Department offers undergraduate courses in a wide range of subjects, including the literature of France and Francophone areas, of Italy, Spain, Latin America and other Hispanic populations such as U.S. Latinos, as well as courses in Romance linguistics and in the syntax and morphology of the individual languages. Students are encouraged to take coursework and explore interdisciplinary opportunities in English, History, Political Science, Linguistics, Anthropology, Art History, Comparative Literature, and Media Study, among others.

Students who plan to teach language in a secondary school should plan their curriculum in consultation with faculty in the Teacher Education Institute.

The Department is exploring options for service learning and internship opportunities for its majors and welcomes feedback and suggestions from them on these or other matters.
